Assessing the Performance of WRF Model in Simulating Heavy Precipitation Events over East Africa Using Satellite-Based Precipitation Product

چکیده

This study investigated the capability of Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model to simulate seven different heavy precipitation (PRE) events that occurred across East Africa in summer 2020. The WRF outputs were evaluated against high-resolution satellite-based observations, which obtained from prior evaluations several satellite observations with 30 stations’ data. synoptic conditions accompanying also determine are conducive PRE. verification output was carried out using area-related root mean square error (RMSE)-based fuzzy method. method quantifies similarity PRE intensity distribution between forecast observation at spatial scales. results showed reproduced magnitudes ranging 6 >30 mm/day. pattern Precipitation Estimation Remotely Sensed Information Artificial Neural Networks-Cloud Classification-Climate Data Record (PERSIANN-CCS-CDR) close output. RMSE respect tended reduce as scale increased for all events. data had an obvious advantage when validating demonstrated may be used forecasting over high resolutions subsequent simulation setups used.

Evaluation of the Performance of Three Satellite Precipitation Products over Africa

We present an evaluation of daily estimates from three near real-time quasi-global Satellite Precipitation Products—Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis (TMPA), Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks (PERSIANN), and Climate Prediction Center (CPC) Morphing Technique (CMORPH)—over the African contine...

short range precipitation forecasts evaluation of wrf model over iran

iran has a complex topography and it consists of rugged, mountainous rims surrounding high interior basins. because of this condition, in some cases the nwp output has a significant error from mesoscale variations induced by the diverse topography.  iran, covering an area of about 1,648,000 km2, is located in the southwest of asia approximately between 25° and 40° n and 44° and 64° e. this is p...

Probabilistic Precipitation Estimation with a Satellite Product

Satellite-based precipitation products have been shown to represent precipitation well over Nepal at monthly resolution, compared to ground-based stations. Here, we extend our analysis to the daily and subdaily timescales, which are relevant for mapping the hazards caused by storms as well as drought. We compared the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) Multi-satellite Precipitation Analy...

Analysis of drought situation in Iran using ECMWF precipitation product

Drought is one of the natural disasters occurring over a long period of time compared to other natural phenomena which intermittently impedes human societies through the negative impacts on water and agricultural resources and subsequently the economy. One of the methods of drought monitoring is the use of drought indices such as SPI. In this study, SPI index was used to study drought over the ...
